DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:


This is non-professional work involving responsibility for assisting school teachers in the performance of their nonteaching
duties through a variety of activities related to the learning process. Work is performed under the direct
supervision of a certified teacher, administrator, or senior official in accordance with well-established procedures.
The Teacher Aide performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

 

  • Works with small groups of children reviewing repetitive classwork
  • Corrects papers and records grades under the direction of a teacher
  • Accompanies and supervises students during assemblies, field trips, playground activities, cafeteria periods, and other school events
  • Assists with preparations for science demonstrations, music and art classes, and audio-visual presentations
  • Proctors and assists in administering various tests
  • Performs clerical tasks related to classroom activities, including typing, copying, filing, distributing materials, preparing teaching aids, maintaining records, and taking attendance
  • Assists in classroom management and crisis intervention as directed by the teacher
  • Assists students with disabilities in maintaining a normal school routine, including bus arrivals and departures, cafeteria assistance, toileting, evacuation drills, lifting and carrying when necessary
  • May arrange parent conferences under teacher direction
  • May relieve classroom teachers for emergencies or meetings as needed
  • May perform food service, school monitor, or custodial/cleaner duties on a substitute basis

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Indexes and files letters, reports, memos, and other related office documents.
  • Conducts simple file searches and maintains record of charge-out of files.
  • Gives out routine information to the public, either in person or on the telephone.
  • Opens incoming mail, date stamps, and distributes to the appropriate staff.
  • Assists in preparation of routine reports and surveys.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as calculators, fax machines, photocopiers, or metered mailing machines.
  • Makes simple entries onto office documents, records, bills, ledgers, etc.
  • May perform occasional typing duties which do not require a certified degree of proficiency.
  • May act as a receptionist and provide routine assistance for inquiries or refer inquiries to appropriate staff members.
  • May make appointments as required.
  • May operate and make simple data entries into computerized information/word processing systems.

ATTENDANCE AIDE - 10 MONTH

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for the daily collection and compilation of student attendance records in a school. Work is performed under direct supervision of a building Administrator in accordance with established procedures and is subject to daily review. Does related work as required.


TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Collects daily classroom attendance records including notes and passes from students;
  • Types and distributes daily attendance sheets;
  • Updates computer attendance records daily;
  • Telephones parents and/or guardians to verify student absences;
  • Operates a typewriter and/or computer keyboard to perform duties which do not require a certified degree of proficiency;
  • Opens, sorts and distributes mail;
  • Answer telephones and refer calls to the appropriate person;
  • May act as receptionist, greeting and directing visitors;
  • May offer back-up clerical support for office staff.

The successful candidate will be hired under the NYS HELPS program.

Substitute Custodial Worker

SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAL WORKER

SALARY: $16.00/hour

LOCATION: DISTRICT WIDE

Hours per week: not to exceed 29 hrs.

Available all shifts during the school year.

This work involves routine building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed according to well-defined procedures and maintenance tasks are performed under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from a Head Custodian or Custodian. Duties involve cleaning and light maintenance of district facilities, grounds and other related work as required.
