Job Description

Title: Special Education Teacher — 10-Month Probationary Appointment
Location: Goshen High School
Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month, Probationary
Certification Required: Valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities 7–12

Position Overview:
The Goshen Central School District is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Special Education Teacher for a 10-month probationary appointment located at Goshen High School. The successful candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring access to the general education curriculum and fostering academic and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with NYS standards.
  • Provide specialized instruction in individual and small group settings.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiation.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of achievement and behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with families, administrators, and support staff.
  • Participate in CSE meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary team planning.
  • Incorporate technology and evidence-based strategies to enhance learning.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities 7–12
  • Strong understanding of special education instructional practices and legal requirements
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching at the secondary level
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and co-teaching models
  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
